So, what do we mean with native cloud solutions?

In native cloud solutions the whole notion of servers, instances, their memory, cpu config and setting up / maintaining the installed software does not exist anymore. Native is SAAS: Software-as-a-Service. Minimal configuration. No 54 pages of Hive configuration settings. No updating statistics.

However, this does not mean your software runs on nothing. You still have to cope with underlying technology as it influences the solutions itself. But there is no need anymore to support the underlying hardware, operating system and application layer. This removes maintenance and licensing costs.

Cloud, and even more native cloud, also brings us new challenges. Examples are the regulatory concerns of using shared resources, pay-for-use models vs fixed costs and how to manage the shift to such a new of working (looking at the people and processes)

An overview of possible topics for this meetup group are:

Business Focus:

  • What a cloud native datalake / datawarehouse actually is made of and roadmaps to get started migrating
  • Comparing fully managed SAAS cloud solutions on business requirements, with the goal to help visitors in starting their data / analytics migration
  • Re-defining the role of a modern information / data / solution architect in this new world: what changes, what is still required?
  • The importance of cloud governance, how to make that work.
  • What does this all mean for the people working in this new ecosystem / how to change the culture?
  • How to deal with the challenges of costs control in pay-for-use operating models?

Tech Focus:

  • What a cloud native datalake / datawarehouse actually is made of and roadmaps to get started migrating
  • Comparing fully managed SAAS cloud solutions on technical requirements that will help people to start their data / analytics migration
  • The shift from ETL to ELT, what does this mean for data modeling and addressing data quality issues (as these won’t magically disappear now)
  • Show us tangible / real implementation results using an as native as possible cloud stack.
  • Demo’s of cloud native analytics / data science solutions. Note that we do not want commercial presentations!
  • The level of the tech presentations should be from 200 (intermediate) up to 500 (guru)
